George Bush Supports Torture

Last Saturday, George Bush announced that he vetoed the Intelligence Authorization Bill, thereby sending a message to the rest of the world that he supports torture, even after Congress rejected practices such as water boarding.

I want to thank the tens of thousands of you who signed our petition taking a stand against torture. It is still vital that as many people as possible take this stand as Congress goes back to work on the Intelligence Authorization Bill.

If you've already signed, please ask your friends and family to do so. If you haven't signed, speak out against torture now by clicking here.

George Bush has once again compromised the moral leadership of our nation. By vetoing a bill establishing a single, government-wide interrogation standard, the President has substituted his own judgment for that of the vast majority of military and foreign policy experts -- including Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander in Iraq -- who all agree that torture is simply counterproductive.

Ironically, George Bush has warned against ignoring the advice of our commanders in Iraq -- while at the same time ignoring the Army Field Manual's determination that horrific tactics such as water boarding elicit unreliable information, put U.S. troops at risk and undermine our counterinsurgency efforts.

Take a stand against torture today byclicking here.

With your help, we will continue working to reverse the damage President Bush has caused to our standing in the world.

Dumbing Down Torture
By User from Denton, TX Mar 12th 2008 at 4:46 pm EDT
I'm sure the al Qaeda torture victims in Iraq (the ones, if any, still alive, that is) feel better now that Harry has "stood up against torture" by equating filling a guy's sinuses with water for 30 seconds with running a power drill through a hand, and turning down the thermometer with putting a blowtorch to the flesh, and medically supervised sleep deprivation with gouging out an eye or severing a limb.

Doubtless the victims feel better now that their torturers can torture with a clear conscious, 'cause America's highest ranking Senator sez George Bush does it too.
Regaining our own moral compass

So far have our morals fallen that one cannot denounce American instances of torture without being told that this gives a clear conscience and a green light to torturers on the other side of the conflict. This is appalling. So much for moral clarity.

The following link and countless others indicate we have unleashed more than 30 second sinus treatments.

Only by clearly stated and vigorously enforced policies against torture, including prosecutions all the way up the chain of command, can we hold the moral high ground and regain our own moral compass.

Only Impeachment Is ACTION
By User from Westfield, NJ Mar 15th 2008 at 6:01 am EDT
Impeachment is the ONLY way to "take a stand against torture today."

It is the only thing US Gov't Officials can do that meets our treaty obligations to ACT to stop ongoing torture and war crimes.

Failure to impeach war criminals is consequently a war crime in itself.

That's why all this self-serving blather seems so futile. Because it is masturbatory at best -- more realistically, it is complicity with and a firewall for this war criminal regime. As that is its effect.

Only impeachment can begin to Redeem Our National Soul.

It is our ONLY moral, patriotic option.
