Michael Mukasey

Waterboarding is torture.

Because Michael Mukasey cannot admit to this basic fact, I will vote against his nomination.

I respect Michael Mukasey and believe he is an intelligent and capable man. However, given our recent history, it is important that our next attorney general be able to stand up to the President and for the rule of law. I am not confident that Michael Mukasey will.

Send the message:

If he can't say no to torture - we say no to Mukasey.

While Michael Mukasey refuses to answer the question of whether waterboarding is torture, the precedent is clear. In 1947, Yukio Asano, a Japanese officer, was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for performing a form of waterboarding on an American citizen.

In 2004, Daniel Levin, who was then acting assistant attorney general, volunteered to be waterboarded. Later, he told the White House "even though he knew he wouldn't die, he found the experience terrifying and thought that it clearly simulated drowning."

If Michael Mukasey cannot answer the simple question of whether or not waterboarding is torture, he should not serve as attorney general.

Our message needs to be loud and clear:

If he can't say no to torture - we say no to Mukasey.

OK, you voted against Mukasey, but why did you not have the balls to Filibuster? You had the votes! Why do Democrats need 60 votes to pass anything, and the Republicans can do it with 53? The Republicans don't even have to filibuster. You have a cloture vote, don't get 60 votes and you lose. Democrats lose with 56 votes. Republicans win with 53 votes. What is going on here? Who's in charge of the Senate, anyway? Is McConnel the Majority Leader or are you? Why are you not using all the weapons you have to fight this criminal administration?

Senator Reid,
You folded like a tent in the wind - you talk a good game, but when it comes to backing it up you sold out!

I hope stem cell research gets approved some time and used to give a backbone to the spinless Democrats now in congress.

I totally agree with the post from CC yesterday - why did you not filibuster this new lackey from Bush?
One pissed off American.

"You did not pay much attention through the Carter Admin., the culprit of our middle east woes today not to mention the downfall of the American economy. You can't be serious. "

No - YOU can't be serious! It's the boneheaded stupididty that got us into this whole mess, not Carter or Clinton as I'm sure you'd be quick to make a point of.
Your gang of thieves kissed their rabbits feet the day the twin towers collapsed. They had a notion it would happen, but they weren't sure until My Pet Goat got interrupted. Certainly - in his undisclosed location - Cheney was doing a jig of joy over the fact that they'd been handed THE perfect cover to perpetrate their criminal acts in pursuit of plundering the US coffers. And the sadly amusing part is, they have you and the rest of the quivvering jelly-balls hornswaggled into going along with them as they perpetuate their robbery upon us.
Where are you keyboarding from? I'll bet it isn't from someplace where you'll pick up your rifle and go out looking for Islamo-terrorists! I hope your god calls you home in the rapture soon. The level-headed amongst us need some relief!

Michael Mukasey is trying to tell you something. He is trying to tell you how to make him do something. He is trying to say, "If congress determines that certain types of enhanced interrogation techniques are torture and therefore illegal, then he will have no alternative but to act." Listen carefully and read between the lines.

A word for Harry Reid
By User from Tyler, TX Nov 15th 2007 at 2:29 am EST
Harry,

I have wanted to talk to you and give you my opinions, but unfortunately, your line is always busy or your voice mail is always full. I can understand as you probably want to hide from the American people. I don't blame you. I'd want to hide too, if I were a sissy like you.

Frankly, I am disgusted by your lack of patriotism for your country. If you don't agree with the war, that's fine. But, playing politics with our soldiers' lives is sickening. I am praying for your removal from office.

Either, get on our side or get out! If you can't be a patriot, leave this great country. I'm sick of the garbage that comes out of your mouth. Now, I don't agree with everything President Bush has done (immigration and this stupid North American Union), but I believe he has done his best to do what is right for this country. I call on you to stop your petty temper tantrum and do the same.

Please, stop talking about "our boys" and start listening to "our boys".

please use 'pro forma'
By User from Pasadena, CA Nov 15th 2007 at 11:27 am EST
Senator Reid, please use the 'pro forma' session to keep the Senate active and preventing President Bush from being able to dodge accountability and once again make a recess appointment. He's played you all before at this, making promises means little to him and after six years of getting away with murder it's time to reign the lame duck in. Show him the game is over. The American people are tired of his games, tired of his lack of transparancy and tired of his ridicule of the public forum in our government. Thank you! Keep giving him Hell, this is one way to do it! You know if you don't, he will play his game of "gotcha" once again.
