Back in December, when Tim Johnson fell ill, I delivered tens of thousands of get well soon cards from members of GiveEmHellHarry.com. It was one of my proudest moments since launching this community. Well I have some good news to report -- it looks like Tim Johnson will be back at work in the Senate soon.

Tim is up for reelection in 2008 and as he finishes his recovery, we need to make sure he will be able to hit the ground running. While he is incredibly popular at home, South Dakota is a red state and Tim will be a Republican target next year.

Next week is the FEC's second quarter fundraising deadline. Republicans and the media will use these numbers as the primary gage of a campaign's strength. Tim can't fundraise for himself right now, so we all need to chip in and help.

Make a contribution to Tim Johnson's campaign before next week's critical fundraising deadline.

In 2002, Tim Johnson won by just 524 votes. Ever since he was declared the winner, Republicans have been preparing for 2008. And now, with Democrats in the majority by only one vote, they will do whatever it takes to try and defeat him.

Well, we need to do whatever it takes to help him fight back. If you want to see Democrats keep and expand our majority in 2008, the most important thing you can do is support Tim Johnson.

Next week is the FEC's end of quarter fundraising deadline. If you have ever considered making a contribution, now is the moment.

Tim is a fighter. The entire time I've known him, he has consistently stood up for what he believes in, no matter what. And when he became sick in December I knew he would fight to come back to the Senate. The fact that Tim is recovering so quickly is a testament to his incredible strength and will power.

A needed senate seat and probably the only senate seat that the might be lost in the next elections...

I doubt anyone on the other side can win however...

Thanks for supporting Tim Johnson on your blog!

You should check out the power of myths before use your own myths in describing the world...

YEAH, YOU LOST.

As a life long Democrat, I am so pissed at you and this party I could spit. Want a list? Kennedy is pushing guest workers and H-1B visas because he doesn't care if he sells out American workers in exchange for Latino voters. Obey is pushing increasies for abstinence only programs and screaming at war moms. Rangel is negotiating secret trade deals. ALL the Dems caved on the war and continued funding Bush/Cheney's oil war. YOU are disappointed that your immigration/slave labor bill for Vegas casinos failed? Well Democrats are disappointed that Democrats are bought and paid for by corporations. If Nader doesn't run in 08, I will write him in. You, Pelosi, Levin, Rangel, Obey, and Kennedy should just go ahead and join Joe Lieberman's party. What a bunch of crooks and liars you all are. The grass roots intends to take this country back to the Party of FDR. It is about populism, and you and the DLC can drop dead. EX - life long Democrat.

Not ONE Dime - Not ONE Minute
By User from Wheaton, IL Jul 3rd 2007 at 5:24 pm EDT
The judicial system did its job. They convicted Scooter Libby for lying to a Federal investigator and blocking the investigation. I guess we know now why his lawyers didn't put together even a basic defense against the charges. They knew they didn't need a defense. The fix was in and they just had to go through the motions of making it appear that they were defending Scooter and appealing the conviction.

The ONLY remedy at this point is impeachment. The Emperor of the United States has now claimed the power to neuter the judicial system.

Congress took an oath to defend the Constitution. Impeachment of this madman is the only recourse to restore the authority of the Constitution.

Not ONE Dime for Democrats until they stand up Bush regime.

Not ONE minute working for Democrats until they stand up to the Bush regime.

O/T But Important re: (R) fillibuster
By jen Jul 15th 2007 at 8:13 pm EDT
Dear Senator Reid,

Where's the old "Give 'em Hell Harry?" spirit? It seems every piece of legislation Democrats propose, Republicans threaten fillibuster, and
Democrats back down.

I urge Senate Democrats to go back to wherever it is that you dropped the Webb-Hagel Readiness Amendment after it fell four votes short of the 60 needed to make it filibuster proof. I suggest you pick it up and dust it off, maybe give it a few minor cosmetic changes so it can technically be called "revised", and then resubmit it to the Senate for renewed consideration. And I suggest you then call the Republican bluff to filibuster against the Webb-Hagel Readiness Amendment if a vote for cloture can not be obtained through less strenuous means.

I guarantee this is one fight that the Republican Party does not want to wage in the spotlight of a real filibuster. They do not want to explain,
at filibuster length, how refusing to guarantee our brave and patriotic active duty troops as much time at home following deployment to a war zone
as they actually spent in that war zone, before they get shipped back into a war zone again is actually "supporting our troops". The time has come
for Republicans to put up. Or shut up.

Senator Reid, hold your ground if Mitch McDonnell comes marching toward you with his fillibuster threat. This time accept what he has to offer,
and call the Senate into 24 hour session, for the purpose of providing relief and a small measure of fairness to America's brave men and women,
who daily risk their lives for our freedom and security.

Republicans have much more to fear from staging that filibuster than Democrats do. It would
ratchet up the heat on all of their chicken hawk hypocrisy, and show America who really supports our troops, if you called that Republican bluff. It's their ultimate nightmare.

Harry, give 'em Hell!

WOOOOO-HAH! An Allnighter!

There are so many vampire lawyers in the Senate, this after-dark bullshit might produce an end to this bogus occupation.

The American People want this bogus occupation to be done, finished, ended........then we MIGHT just be able to effectively fight REAL al quaida terrorists instead of providing a training ground where they can learn our weaknesses and our military tactics by observation and "hands-on" experience fighting the great American military.
Re-deploy them now, or bring em home.

Right on Poor Daddy!

"It is dark in Washington. It is dawn in Baghdad. Six thousand miles from here, 160,000 American troops are awakening to a new day - the 1,582nd day of this war. One hundred sixty- thousand of our sons, daughters, parents, friends and neighbors, are rising on foreign sand to face another day of violence, chaos and constant danger....

"I want everyone here tonight - every American from coast to coast - to know that we won't stop fighting until we end this war. That is what this night is all about.

"But we all know this debate won't end tonight. It won't end because for
all the encouraging words we've heard from some Republicans these past few
weeks, too few of them are willing to vote the right way too. It won't end because the majority of Republicans continue to ignore the will of the
majority of Americans - and continue to protect the President instead of our troops.

"You are holding candles tonight to honor those troops who have made the
ultimate sacrifice and all of those who remain in harm's way. But you are
also holding candles to shine a bright light on the Republicans in Congress who continue to stand in the way of progress. You will keep the pressure on them. We will keep the pressure on them. And together, you - and we - will deliver the new direction that our troops and all Americans demand and deserve."

Morning, LV....you said:

"Our Senators, all of whom listen to their constituents, would have a landslide vote to remove our troops. That's not gonna happen. I'm sure Reid will ask for cloture and the bill will fail...another waste of our money."

If you are really concerned about wasting money, help stop this 2 BILLION $ a week blood-letting occupation of Iraq.
I think you are naive in thinking that all our Senators listen to their constituents. They just give lip service to "working for the people". The bulk of them are bought and paid for by lobbyists and/or corporations.
Follow the money.
War is lucrative for the few, the proud, the RICH!

"Who are the REAL al queda? Not the al queda we're fighting in Iraq? Who are they?"

If our NIE's can be believed, they are getting stronger, headquartered in the Pakistan/Afghani border area. We are chasing our tail in Iraq and providing a practical "hands-on" training ground for al quaida. We are creating a pissed off new generation of Jihadis by breaking down doors, Abu Ghraibing, killing Hajis and treating them like shit out of fear and stress. I think in my post I said bring them home OR re-deploy (like back to Afghanistan).
Spend a couple hours on LiveLeak.com watching short videos. You'll recognize the ass-backwards way we are treating Iraqi civilians. I don't blame the grunts, I blame the war and the way its being mismanaged.

" The Iraqi Gov't is learning by watching our Dem led Senate, learning weaknesses and our anti-military tactics by observation and "hands-on" experience of how to bash our troops and run from conflict."

There is an element of truth here, but its a coin toss as to which is worse.....continuing the occupation, or bringing them home. I'm in the "stuck in a hole, stop digging" camp.
I prefer re-deployment, upgrading equipment, bringing back the draft (no deferments so we can ALL share the burden of our cash-driven wars), talks with neighboring countries and taking fighting terrorists seriously and more intelligently than we have in Iraq. It would also help to quit shoving "democracy" up other people's asses.
I hate this un-necessary war and always have. Wrong from day one. The insanity of empire.

Later, LV.
