How can the Senate permit the telecommunication companies to get away with breaking the law, not to mention the president with violating his Oath of Office by failing to uphold the Constitution and the laws of our land? To answer my own question, we saw how this can be done last week. How about assking Dodd to be on the FISA bill conference committee?
Now, let's do it. Let's not follow the path that we began after the last congressional election. Good grief, didn't the voters send a message? Didn't Ried hear it? How about Pelosi? Feinstein? Not if you look at the results of their lack of backbone.
Why would it divide us any more if we were to impeach than we have been divided by the Bush administration. The path to eliminating this division is the path of impeachment.
Democratic track record? Well, this week we had the senate cave in to Bush on "amnesty" for the telecommunication companies by way of voting to extend them immunity from litigation. And, the so-called venture to stop torture? Would that have happened if the Republicans hadn't walked out? I shudder to think . . . We have yet to cash in on our election victory a year and a half ago. C'mon Harry, please, oh please start to give them genuine hell. Make them vote. Let him veto. So what. Wishy washy appeasement does nothing for anyone. Get going - NOW!

With all due respect, Senator Reid, I'm losing faith in what you stand for. You could have stopped the Senate FISA Bill from reaching the floor for a vote in the final hours and regrouped later. But you didn't. Now, mind you, I don't have much behind-the-scenes knowledge of what goes on in the Senate chamber, but I do know about the power of filibuster. And I do know about standing strong on an issue. And I do know you could have stopped this bill. Why are so many Senate Democrats soft on this issue? It appears there is something else going on here that the average American is unaware of. If so, what is it?
Mucasey still claims indecision in the face of overwhelming fact in regards to whether "waterboarding" is torture. Here's the quickest and most effective way for the man to get to the heart (or lungs, as it were) of the matter: Waterboard him! I think the man is in the position as attorney general to get the facts first-hand and make an informed decision: Waterboard him! Others of far less importance to this administration have shown great sacrifice in gathering this information for him (see http://www.boingboing.net/2007/12/23/what-waterboarding-f.html) yet he still remains on the fence. Waterboard him! Hey, if it's a just a harmless fun new water sport, why won't he give it a try? What has he got to lose? I don't think anyone who is unwilling to get the info directly on such important matters should hold the position as the supreme law enforcement officer in our country...
Since Tuesday, tens of thousands of you stepped forward and took a stand against torture. I am happy to announce that all your hard work paid off. Thank you.
The Senate passed the Intelligence Authorization bill banning torture. This sent a clear signal to the world: the United States Senate believes torture is immoral and does not work.
Now the bill will go to George Bush, who has a choice: He can sign it into law and declare America does not torture. Or he can continue to damage America's reputation in the world.
Now is the moment when we all need to join together and say "no" to torture. If you've already signed the petition, please forward this e-mail to your friends and family and ask them to sign. If you haven't signed, take a stand against torture now by visiting:

Nearly every expert on interrogation agrees that torture is counter-productive. Most of the information it generates is simply unreliable, causing our intelligence agencies to waste time chasing down false leads. It also puts U.S. troops at risk, in addition to undermining our counterinsurgency operations.
Now is the time for George Bush to show some moral leadership and sign this bill into law. That is why, right now, all of us need to join together and take a stand against torture by visiting:

I'm worried about what No Child Left Behind is doing to students. This week I had to go over test scores for my second grade students. I had to separate them into categories - african american, latino, asian, white, English Language Learner, IEP, and students with free and reduced lunch. This is so I can concentrate on "bubble" students. The ones who are almost making Adequate Yearly Progress. This is so my school can meet it's goal for safe harbor. By the way, the asian student in my classroom doesn't satisfy the category of having enough students in my school to be "counted" in the numbers.
How would a student or a parent feel about not being counted? How do students and parents feel about teachers and schools taking "extra" time to teach and reteach to only students in the middle who will make a difference in a score?
I know how I feel. I want to get back to my real career - caring about each and every student in my classroom and teaching authentic information applicable for life rather then teaching to the test.
